A recent survey of 1818 members of the Houston Federation of Teachers found the following statistics:
70% of those surveyed indicated they had experienced profane or abusive language directed at them by a student.
38% indicated they witnessed or knew about gang activity on campus.
30% stated they had been threatened physically or had their property threatened by a student.
26% directly witnessed drug or alcohol possession by students.
15% indicated they witnessed or knew about students possessing weapons on their campus.
14% witnessed retaliation directed at a co-worker by students on or off campus.
